Sayonara America

Alaska
After packing, cleaning, shipping & moving our things from 2 houses, we were finally living out of our suitcases on base in temporary housing. Our time in temporary housing went very quickly and today we found ourselves finally setting out for Tokyo! With passports in hand, the day began early for 5 people, 9 suitcases and 10 carry ons!! To say it was a challenge to get all of us and our luggage in our rental car is an understatement. The car was stuffed as we headed off to the airport, dropped the kids off with the luggage at the check-in counter, returned the rental car and checked in for the first leg of our flight. The first leg of our flight was from Spokane to Seattle, one that we have each flown several times, first hour down. Once in Seattle we took the tram to the gate of the Boeing 747 waiting to take us to Narita Airport, Tokyo Japan. While the flight from Spokane to Seattle is less than an hour, the flight time from Seattle to Tokyo was 10 hours and 45 minutes. Luckily for the kids, and by extension us, Grandma Karen made them survival kits filled with treats and activities keeping them busy for the duration of the flight. From Seattle we flew up North along the coastline of Canada and Alaska, across the Bering Sea, past the Aleutian Islands, near the coast of Russia (yes I really could see Russia from the plane window) and into Japan.
